Can anybody tell me if the older Yanmar-based JD 650/750/850/950 tractors are still supported by JD as to major parts? Looking for some replacement tinwork for both my Dad's 950 (hood assembly) and my 650 (fenders).

Still going to be orderable via JD, or am I going to be scouring scrapyards? If the latter, any good URL's or links to yards that may specialize on the JD compact diesels?

Thanks for input?

Body parts for my mid-80's Ford are still in the NH parts catalogue and I'd be surprised if JD isn't the same. However, a valid part number doesn't necessarily mean that parts are in inventory.

As far as I understand parts systems, if parts like that are back-ordered delivery could take a long while. Body parts are pretty unique to a model and can't be gotten from OEM catalogues to replenish inventories. Whoever it is that has the contract and keeps the dies has to tool up to do a custom short production run. It essentially is custom work and the cost likely would take one's breath away, but at least new parts probably are available.

A dealer should be able to say if there are valid parts numbers and whether parts are in inventory. However, if the parts are backordered, a dealer probably couldn't estimate delivery times. When you hear the prices, you may want to scour salvage yards anyway.

I think I recall hearing of some after-market companies that put out sort of universal fenders etc. Something like that might be quicker and cheaper than either new or salvage yard parts.

You can get 99.9% of the parts for your 650 through your JD dealer. I have ordered even the stickers that go on the fenders of the 650 with no problem. ....

I checked a few years back for the 750 and they were available, but rapidly reached the price of the tractor. If there is tin left it might be more economical to go to the nearest good body shop and get them to refinish the old ones. ....
